DAY 1

Day 1 Arrival in Colfiorito Colfiorito is located at an altitude of 760M between the regions of Marche and Umbria, on the centre of the Apennine highland. The Marsh of Colfiorito and the surrounding plains are undoubtebly one of the foremost and interesting natural wonders of the Apennines, well renowned for its wide range of geological, historic and scenic attractions. The Colfiorito Park is the smallest of Umbrias regional parks, an oasis protected by the WWF. It was established in 1995 with the aim of safeguarding the pristine marsh which is its most significant feature. It is home to many water birds, amphibians, and gastropods. It is also renowned for the early Romanesque Church of Santa Maria di Plestia and the beautiful Convent of Brogliano. Accommodation is in one of our specialized facilities and includes dinner.

DAY 2

Day 2 1st stage: From Colfiorito to Spello Km 27 Travel time: 8 hours and 30 minutes Level: very challenging This is the most challenging stage of the entire route of the Via Loreto, but also the most scenecally beautiful. It crosses cultivated areas, forests and mountain pastures. Reaching Spello you are confronted by the well-preserved walls of the Roman town, in which are set three gates: the gates of Porta Urbica, La Porta Consolare and Porta Venere. We highly recommended a visit to the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore with houses the famous Baglioni Chapel, which is decorated with tiled floors made of Deruta ceramics and frescoes by Pinturicchio. Accommodation is in one of our specialized facilities and includes dinner.

DAY 3

Day 3 2nd stage: from Spello to Assisi Km 3.5 Travel time: 3 hours and 30 minutes Level: easy This third stage is rather easy with an route that connects the two largest towns in Umbria: Spello and Assisi. It a path completly surrounded by nature, winding between forests and olive groves. Once arrived in Assisi you will be exposed to a unique experience, where mysticism and nature fuse seamlessly together, creating a surreal atmosphere. The town not only deserves to be visited, but also to be experienced. This stage of your journey includes overnight accommodation in Assisi and is structured so as to allow you time to visit the most significant places of the 'Angelic city'. Accommodation is in one of our specialized facilities and includes dinner.

DAY 4

Day 4 Assisi The full day is dedicated to the visit of the Franciscan town par excellence. This medieval town, birthplace of Saint Francis, the founder of the religious order of the Franciscans, has since the year 2000 been one of the World's UNESCO sites. The most important monument of Assisi is dedicated to the Saint: the Basilica of San Francesco. It is an outstanding example of the type of architectural ensemble that has significantly influenced the development of European art and architecture. Another Basilica not to be missed is the Basilica of Saint Clare, which houses the remains of Saint Clare together with the beautiful wooden crucifix which, according to legend, spoke to St. Francis. Finally, one should visit the Cathedral of San Rufino, bishop, martyr and patron saint of Assisi. Departure to return.
